Klorlugt opstår normalt når klorkoncentrationen i poolvandet er for lav (mindre end 0,3 mg/l). Problemet kan typisk løses ved at lave en klor chokbehandling, og derved bringe klorkoncentrationen op over 0,3 mg/l - optimalt ca. 5 mg/l.
